I would like to know more about the application requirements for KLI.
Students who possess a high school diploma or equivalency are welcome to apply. Students who have not graduated from high school are not eligible to take Korean language courses at our institution.
I would like to know what kind of visa I will need.
Students who wish to take courses in KLI will need to hold a D-4 Visa (short-term student visa). If you want to know in details, please see the “visa” section.
What should I do if I want to extend my D-4 visa?
After paying tuition fees for the next semester, please come to the office (Room 212) with an residence contract and registration card. You can also visit the Immigration Office in person and submit the documents for the extension.
What language are classes held in? Can I take classes even if I don’t speak Korean?
All classes are held in Korean. After a preliminary assessment interview, you will be placed in the class that is appropriate to your skill level. But in case of Level 1, instructors also use English to help students understand well.
How much time will I need to finish the entire KLI program? How good will my Korean be if I complete the whole program?
One session is ten weeks, and there are 4 sessions per year. Normally, if students complete the whole program(Level 6), they are able to communicate fluently with Koreans and study at a Korean university.
Is there any place to study after class?
Students may use YU library or KLI global lounge (Located in 3rd floor of international center). The computer room is available at any time for Internet or computer use.
What do I need to do if I want to attend Yeungnam University after I study at KLI?
Foreign students who have passed TOPIK level 2 are eligible to apply for admission to Yeungnam University, and there will be Korean language skill screening before entering the university. If you want to know in details, please see the homepage. (http://is.yu.ac.kr/)
How can I register the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)?
You should register for the exam online prior to taking it. You can find detailed information on the TOPIK homepage (http://www.topik.or.kr)
Are there any scholarships available?
Yes, we offer scholarships for the high performing students in each level.
What do I need to do for moving up to the next level?
You can move up to the next level if you have an attendance rate of 80% or more and a total score of 70 or higher.
